Having been raised in the
heart of the Trolley District I feel that the revitalization is extremely vital
to the City of Ogden. The Trolley District playes such a pivotal roll
that I don't think one can happen without the other. The City
Administration and Council need to work in unison to achieve the best possible
outcome for the trolley district. More home need to be rehabilitated, not
just the 10 to 12 per year. We should elevate that number to 50 to 60 per
year. More incentive programs need to created and implemented to entice home owners to reinvest into the district. Community
and City leaders need to work with the local schools to improve the quality and
caliber of the education provided. We need to make a concerted effort to
implement local Youth Centers and programs that establish community ownership
and pride. As a City Councilman I would actively pursue and lead the
community workshops to help build the community spirit, and pride. I will
work with civic and faith based organizations to find and seek out grant
opportunities that can be directed and earmarked for improvements and ownership
programs in the Trolley District. If we work together and create the
opportunity for a Community to thrive, I believe it will.
2. The importance is great to have the proposed
transportation scheme that includes the Trolley District, but also needs to include the historic 25th Street as well as the
University and the hospital. Perhaps we should propose a route that
includes all of the elements. I envision a trolley system that starts out
at the inter-modal hub, then easterly to Grant Avenue then South to historic
25th street, then east to Quincy Ave., then South to 28th Street then east to
Taylor then south past the Mt. Ogden Park and Golf Course onto the University
District, the events center and on to the hospital. continuing
down through the south neighborhoods to 36th and Quincy and then north to 30th
and west to Grant then north to 25th street where it started. Lets
look at a loop system rather than a direct to and adirect back using the same
corridor. We can serve more people and prevent restriction to our main
points of travel
3. I believe that the expansion of Harrison Blvd. would not be in
the best interest of the Harrison residents and or the residents of the Trolley
District. I would work with property owners and other governmental
entities to ind an alternative solution to this
situation. Thus eliminating the need to displace so many residents.
4. Yes, we need to work continuously with local police and fire
personnel to bring to their attention any suspicious activity that might e
harmful to our community. We need to include them in our discussions and
seek their input as we continue to go and nurture our Community. We all need
to take an active roll in being the eye's and ears of out Public Safety Staff. This
will strengthen our and their tie to the Trolley District. It will also
show that we care and we won't take it anymore..... Lets
Stand and Be Heard....!!!!
Thanks Again for the opportunity to discuss the issues with you......
